Young swiss Speed skater (ice and in-line), livio wenger is a potential chance of medal for Switzerland at the next Olympics Games (2022). With us, he speaks of his season and his sport.
1.Can you introduce yourself?
My Name is Livio Wenger and I am just a skater on Ice and Inline.
2.You started with in-line speed skating. You have won 2 European titles and a 2nd place in World Games. What do you like in this sport?
I just love the movement and speed of the sport. To race in a group on Inline and against the clock on Ice is both so challenging but it makes you want to get better every day.
3.In 2014, you strated ice speed skating, why did you choose this sport ? Is it complementary with in-line speed skating?
One reason because of the Olympics for sure. It was always my dream to compete at the highest level possible. And nothing comes close to the Olympic Games. And 2nd aswell thru the Ice I had much better support in Switzerland because it is an Olympic Sport. Yes it is close to Inline but there is still huge differences and it takes a lot of time to get used to it. To be honest I still do not feel 100% comfortable on it.

4.With ice speed skating, you were able to represent Switzerland at the Olympic Games, did you enjoy your experience?
Yes it was great and I loved to compete at the Olympics. It was an amazing experience but also I would like to achieve more in the future. And I can't wait for the coming months and years.
5.Which do you prefer : in-line or ice speed skating?
I love both. Both sports are amazing and both have their beauties. Of course I started as a 7 year old kid with Inline and my heart will always be with it. But I definitely fell in love with the Ice.

6.In France, ice speed skating is practiced by a very small number of people (like Alexis Contin, the most known ice skater). What would you say to the French people to attract them to this sport? France has so many great Inliners like Alexis and Ewen whom both were at the Olympics already. France is a great Inline-Nation and has a lot of potential. At the end of the day, it is a question who wants to take their chance just like those two and make it to the Olympics on Ice. 7.And in Switzerland, what is the importance of your sport? Sadly it is not very important. If we are a small country we are a big Winter Sports Nation. I hope to bring more good results to Switzerland to help Swiss Ice and Inline of course. 8.You are only 20 years old, how do you see the rest of your career? What do you mean? (laugh) 9.Do you have a race that you particularly remember? Yes of course. It was the Mass Start race in Salt Lake City where I could get my first ever World Cup Podium. I had an amazing last corner and passed a lot of people. It was a great feeling. |
